History of Float Pods
The isolation float tanks or sensory deprivation tanks were developed in the 1950's by Dr. John Lilly, a medical practitioner and neuropsychiatrist, to experiment how sensory deprivation effected mental health.
In the 1980's float tanks became available commercially and advertised as a form of alternative medicine. Since this time numerous studies have been conducted attesting to the beneficial health effects for any and all who enter the tank.
The primary function of the isolation tank is to eliminate as many external senses as possible while floating effortlessly in 94 degree Epsom salt and water solution.
Is the water sterile?
The water is turned over 3 times between each float, passing through a 10 micron filter, UV+ozone UV purification system, along with daily chemicals added. The tank is cleaned and sanitized between each float session.
Are there any risks?
If you have any of the following concerns, you should not use a float pod: open wounds, skin ulcers, Epilepsy, low blood pressure, contagious diseases or illness, claustrophobia. It is recommended that you consult your physician before engaging in new physical activities, including flotation therapy.
Will I get dehydrated?
Nope, your skin will not even prune. Your body will absorb a lot of magnesium from the Epsom salt, Epsom salt has been around since the earl 17th century.
What if I'm claustrophobic?
As the floater you are always in control of your environment. You do not have to close the lid, there are lights and music available inside the pod. If you do have issues in the pod during your session, you can always end the session early.
Can I drown?
Nope! Not even if you fall asleep! The water is buoyant with 950 pounds of Epsom salt, so you will stay floating.
Can I float while pregnant?
Absolutely!! There are positions that you can float in that relieve all of the weight of the baby off of the mothers body. You can even hear the babies heart beat through the water! Please, consult with your physician before coming in.
What do I bring?
Just yourself! Everything you need will be provided towels, robes, ear plugs, etc. We do recommend eating a light meal and not consuming caffeine or alcohol prior to your session.
